Wolves Over the Moon to Clinch Tight Easter Hockey Festival
The 66th Torbay Easter Hockey Festival ended on Easter Monday with Wolves (Wolverhampton H.C.) winning a finely contested Bill Stickles Cup. Wolves scored 27 goals over the weekend but, in truth, any of another five teams could have won with Midwives (26 goals), Buffaloes and Stags (25 each), Cleevillians and Pink Panthers (24 each) always in the frame .
The Redcliffe Fair Play Cup was awarded to the Oddfellows (main picture).
In addition, the Festival achieved one of its major goals this year. For the first time in its 66 year history, no team went through the programme unbeaten!
Local team, the Pink Panthers (Torbay H. C.) made an excellent start but fell away in their last two games, losing both without scoring a goal.
Overall, some 500 players and supporters left the Borough having enjoyed a successful Festival, despite some appalling weather.
The Festival made a £ 400 Donation, the proceeds of various fund raising efforts, to the Downsouth charity.
