Division One East:
Four Points Enough to Take Teigns Top

Visiting Appledore started the better in Saturday’s match and had Teigns on the defensive for long periods, but Ian Wilkinson’s low whipped 30 yard free kick beat the wall and the ‘keeper in first half stoppage time to give Teigns the lead at the interval.
Chances fell to both sides early in the second half then, on the hour, Appledore’s Watson received a second yellow card for a foul on Wilkinson and was sent off. Teigns didn’t capitalise and the ten men of Appledore looked more likely to score. A great goal line clearance from Steve Shrubb prevented an equaliser in the 72nd minute, the ball spinning out for a corner, but from the ensuing flag kick Frickleton rose to head the visitors level. One minute later Teigns were back in front; Hayden Roe flicked on Isaac Reed’s corner and Scott Baxter buried a header from six yards. Appledore refused to give up and snatched a draw when Ryan Bush conceded a penalty in the 81st minute and Henry levelled from the spot.
A good performance from Teigns saw them take all three points in a convincing win at Crediton on Tuesday 23rd Sept. Ryan Bush opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, heading home Geoff Breslan’s corner. Isaac Reed’s superb cross field pass set Sam Chapman up to double the lead in the 63rd minute. A minute later, Chapman was fouled in the box and Hayden Roe converted the resultant spot kick. With two minutes remaining, Bush notched the fourth goal with a neat finish.

Spurs Slump to Seventh Match Without a Win
Newton Abbot Spurs stretched their winless run to seven games after an under par performance against a Brixham side who completed the double over Spurs. Captain Kevin Dadd and Chris Metters returned to the starting line up from last week’s draw with Tavistock while James Aggett replaced the unavailable Shaun Hooton in goal.
Despite there being four goals, the game itself was very much void of goalmouth action. Carl Bradley looked a threat for Spurs and he had their first effort on four minutes but saw his angled drive go fizzing past the back post. The next meaningful action saw the visitors take the lead on thirty-five minutes; a Matt Constable corner was met by captain Scott Dodgson who rose highest to plant his header firmly into the bottom corner of Aggett’s net.
Spurs equalised 11 minutes into the second half through player manager Adam Dyson; Matt Williams and Carl Bradley combined and Dyson took the latter’s pass, made a yard of space for himself just inside the box, and placed his effort beyond the reach of Ryan Walton in the visiting goal. The score didn’t remain level for long as, just two minutes later, Jay Morgan (pictured) toe-poked Brixham back into the lead following a defensive error, an all to common occurence for Spurs this season. The away side completed their victory with 18 minutes left on the clock. Aggett brought down Scott Troth as he made his way to the byline and Morgan stepped up to place the ball just out of the ‘keeper’s reach, despite not connecting cleanly with his strike. Spurs failed to threaten Walton in the closing stages, despite a debut from former Taunton Town and Dawlish Town player Gary Fisher.
Spurs fell well short of the standards set in their previous two games and deservedly fell to defeat. They must pick themselves up for another home game next week when they welcome back former player Chris Porter and his Alphington side.

Premier Division:
Of the 53 clubs in the league, only Bodmin Town have reached October with an unbeaten record at the end of a day of shock results throughout the three divisions. Leaders Ivybridge Town failed to score as they went down 0-2 at home to Exmouth Town, while all of the morning’s bottom three played, and won. Bottom side Bovey Tracey are now back in credit points-wise after they won 2-1 away at Newquay, and Stoke Gabriel are out of the bottom two after they had a 1-0 win at home to St Blazey.
Division One East:
A full programme of nine East games saw yet more shocks at the top and bottom of the table. Galmpton United in second place fell to their first defeat of the season as they were well beaten 5-2 away at Exwick Villa, while two of the morning’s bottom three recorded wins with Totnes & Dartington climbing three places, after a 3-2 win over Alphington, and bottom side Axminster Town enjoying a second win of the campaign with a 2-1 victory away at Liverton United.
