Watcombe Net 13 to Sweep Away WBB
Watcombe Wanderers go three points clear at the top of the Premier with their biggest win of the season so far. Sean Finch (pictured) scored four, Curtis Booth a hat-trick and Casey Cooper a double in a 13-1 hammering of Watts, Blake & Bearne. Striker Kain Bond and defenders Wayne Bergin, Jack Taylor and Luke Worth joined the goalfest. The goals flowed at Poole Lane too as East Allington United moved second, beating Kingsteignton Athletic 6-4. Tom Rowden scored twice with Si Hannaford, James Ivatts, Ben Robey and Jon Davis also finding the net. Stoke Gabriel Reserves look like they could be a force to reckon with this season, racking up a fourth consecutive league win at the expense of Loddiswell Athletic. Upton Athletic enjoyed back-to-back league wins for the first time this season with a decent 4-1 away win at Newton Abbot Spurs Reserves. Ivybridge Town Reserves scored three for the fourth consecutive match, holding Kingskerswell & Chelston at Armada Park, while Bovey Tracey Reserves sunk to a sixth straight loss, beaten 5-1 at home to Waldon Athletic.
In Division One, Beesands Rovers maintain their position at the top with an impressive 3-1 win away at Stoke Gabriel Reserves, Joe Bailey, Lee Morgan and Guy Watson delivering the goods for the Bees and Horn scoring for the Railwaymen. A third home success in a row keeps Buckland Athletic Thirds on their tail, Babbacombe Corries beaten 3-1. Pike (2) and Newman netted for the Yellows with Skinner on target for the visitors. Newton Abbot 66 move into the top three with another away win, winning 3-1 at Broadhempston United. Brixham AFC Reserves ensured Ipplepen Athletic remain rooted with a 4-1 triumph at Wall Park. Struggling Buckfastleigh Rangers went down to another home defeat; Kieren Trent managed a double for Rangers but Kingskerswell & Chelston Reserves enjoyed a 3-2 win. Teignmouth Reserves needed to bounce back from last week’s heavy defeat and they did so with a competent away win. Marcos Paz made his début and slotted in well, team spirit and passion were present and a tremendous strike from Jason Saw gave Teigns the lead. A confident display from Wayne Pearce in goal spurred his team-mates on and good play from Andy Breslan and Saw meant that Tots Reserves couldn’t break down a solid Teigns rearguard. Manager Nick Maynard couldn’t ask any more from the twelve man squad that made the trip to the Foxhole Ground. Unbeaten Paignton Villa’s trip to Chudleigh was called off.
In-form Brixham Town moved to the top of Division Two with a 3-1 home win over Harbertonford. A fiery encounter at St Mary’s Park saw Town extend their unbeaten start with goals from Halliday (2) and Swindells. Town controversially then had Brown and Halliday sent off late on but held on with nine men. Previous leaders Foxhole United were held 5-5 at home to Newton United, both sides yet to taste defeat; Newton’s goals came from Chris Harper (2), Liam McGrath, Matt Crane and Jordan Armstrong. It was a similar story at Broadpark as third place Kingsteignton Athletic Reserves drew 2-2 with Buckland & Milber, both sides unbeaten; Dan Steer and Cory Brennan struck for the visitors. Hookhills finally got off the mark with a decisive 4-0 victory at South Brent who remain winless; Totnes & Dartington Third still seek their first point after a 4-1 reverse at home to Brixham AFC Thirds. Abbotskerswell enjoyed their first win since the opening day, beating Waldon Reserves 2-0 away.
There were an average of nine goals a game in Division Three this weekend. The step up seems to have done little to impede Roselands and Watcombe Wanderers Reserves who both head the table after cricket score wins. Roselands put 13 past Teign Village with no reply, Wanderers going one better with a 14-0 victory at Windmill Hill; Simon Ross grabbed five for himself, Alex Kidd scored a hat-trick, Lloyd Tucker a brace and there were singles for Sam Edney, Keanu Zarezadeh, Joff Carter and Brad Corderoy. Bishopsteignton United have now scored 15 in their last three games – all away from home – as they won through 7-5 at Upton Athletic Reserves. Harbertonford hold fourth spot with a 5-0 victory over South Brent Reserves, while Dartmouth AFC Reserves’ first win of the season was an emphatic one, the Darts ending Chudleigh Athletic Reserves’ spell of form with a 6-1 home victory. Salcombe Town enjoyed a more modest success, winning 2-1 to move within a point of opponents East Allington United Reserves; Luke Calkin and Kieran Stallard hit the net for Town.
It’s all change at the top of Division Four. Dittisham United go top and are the only side yet to lose; the South Hams side won 2-0 at Torbay Police. Liverton United Reserves move above AFC Staverton on goal difference with a 4-1 home win over them, while Riviera United surprised Newton Rovers with the only goal at Bakers Park. A David Topham brace helped Meadowbrook Athletic to their first win of the season; contributions from Lee Smith, James Howrihane and an own goal saw Athletic win 5-3 at Newton Abbot 66 Reserves. Polonia Torbay and Buckfastleigh Rangers Reserves also benefitted from big away victories. Polonia won 4-1 at Ilsington Villa, while strikes from Brett Easterbrook (2), Ryan Porter and Glen Palmer meant Rangers returned happy from Corries Reserves. Paignton Villa Reserves managed their first win of the campaign, one goal enough to overcome Roselands Reserves.
In Division Five, Sam Pyne and Connor Finch keep leaders Watcombe Wanderers top of the SDL goals scored table with a narrow 2-1 home win over Moretonhampstead, Rui de Garces on target for the visitors. Ashburton Reserves’ 4-3 victory over Torquay Town moves them third. Broadmeadow’s perfect start stretches to four after the newcomers triumphed 7-2 at home to Broadhempston United Reserves, while Barton Athletic warmed up for their Herald Cup clash at Upton with a 7-0 win over Buckland & Milber Reserves; Jody Rooney put away four, Anthony Jones two and Frankie Rooney the remainder. Another close run tie at Bakers Park went the way of the hosts this time, Newton Rovers Reserves narrowly condemning Paignton Saints Reserves to their fifth straight defeat. Saints replace Stoke Fleming & Strete at the foot of the league as Stoke drew 3-3 at home to Newton United Reserves for their first point of the campaign; Guttridge (2) and Hedger scored for United. Kingsbridge & Kellaton completed an October double over Malborough United with a 3-0 away win.
