Torquay Continue Good Form

Torquay Cricket Club continued their march to promotion with another emphatic victory, this time against Abbotskerswell on Saturday.

 

 

Having won the toss and electing to field the visitors shared the wickets around as Torquay bowled their host out for 234 just inside 50 overs. Mitchell Pugh, Jack Richardson, Tom Drake and Matthew Beasant all taking two wickets, while Franco Kasner and Kazi Szymanski got one each.

 

 

Most of the Abbotskerswell runs came via Sam Johnston (45), Charles Mitchell (29) and Elliott Adams who was not out 58.

 

Looking at a run rate of just over 4.5, the Torquay openers of Tim Western and Kasner put on 104 runs before Kasner was caught off the bowling of Samuel Carpenter while on 35. Western and captain George Allen then added 73 before Western fell on 75 which included 13 fours in an impressive display.

 

 

With Mitchell Pugh coming in at No.4, he and Allen continued to attack and the pair claimed victory and 20 points for the visitors with 38 and 56 runs respectively. Allen’s 56 coming off 74 balls including 8 fours and 1 six.

 

 

With this win and Cornwwod taking victory at Chudleigh by 113 runs, the gap between 1st and 3rd is now 18 points but there’s still all to play for with 7 fixtures remaining.

 

 

Paignton Cricket Club consolidated 3rd place in the league with victory away at Bideford.

 

 

Having tasted defeat for only the second-time last week, Richard Ashworth’s men took 18 points from this fixture, winning narrowly by 11 runs as the hosts ran out of overs in their quest to pass Paignton’s 205 all out after 46.3 overs.

 

 

Pick of the batting from Paignton was Luke Medlock, who coming in at No.8, with his side on 111-6, hit 61 off 72 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. Medlock was also very handy with the ball taking 2 wickets for 14 runs off 7 overs.

 

 

Next weekend see’s leaders Torquay entertain Bideford, while Paignton are on the road again, this time away at Plympton.
