South Devon Ladies Continue Winning Streak
Both Torquay United and Buckland Athletic Ladies have kept up their promising form by adding league cup success to their recent league victories.
Torquay benefited from a home walkover in the Pat Sowden Cup against a Charlestown side who had narrowly beaten them 3-2 at the end of last month. Goals from Jana Richards and Carmen Thornton hadn’t quite been enough on that occasion with an own goal and an Angelee Robinson header putting the hosts 2-1 up at the break and Tori Marks netting a second half winner. The Gullettes also had Rhiannon Bailey dismissed. Nevertheless they quickly bounced back to inflict a heavy 6-1 defeat on Downend Flyers on their return home the following Sunday, Laura Baker and Charlotte Dymond with doubles and Sian Chapman and Niamh Farrell also on target; Kylie Allen scored for the Flyers.
Torquay are back in cup action this Sunday as they travel to Yeovil Town Intermediate in the league.
Western Division leaders Buckland Athletic continue to go from strength to strength, smashing 12 past Forest Green Rovers in this afternoon’s Soccerworld League Cup clash. Four goalscorers did all of the damage with Laura Gough and Kirsty Caunter finding the net five times each and Hayley Chamberlain and sub Helen Kukor with the other two. It’s been a similar story in the league with Gough scoring another quintet last Sunday as the Yellows hammered Exeter and Tedburn 10-0! Also on the score-sheet that afternoon were Hannah Brook and Emily Hannaford, with two apiece and Abigail Meyer. Prior to that win, Gough, Meyer and Gabriella Trays had netted in a rather more down-to-earth 3-2 win away at Callington Town, Kate Nicholls and Katherine Marment keeping it close with goals for the Cornish side.
Buckland still hold a perfect record in the league but are in Cornwall County Cup action next – away at Exeter and Tedburn who will be hoping that home advantage may be of some benefit.
