Local Girl Sophie Wins Again
Torquay Kings Bowling club member Sophie Tolchard capped off a remarkable year by winning the Bowls England Junior Player of the year 2014 award at this weekends ceremony in Birmingham on Saturday night. It was the second time the Young bowler has claimed this prize, following her 2013 success.
The award completed a great year for the 23 year old, who also claimed a Gold medal at this years commonwealth games in glasgow, taking the lead in the England triples team. Tolchard told Sport South Devon “This has just been the best year for me, being selected for the Commonwealth Games was an achievement in it’s self but to also come away with a Gold Medal was a dream come true but then to win the young bowler of the year for the second consecutive year is fantastic and means a lot to me”.
In the coming season Sophie is targeting National success as she aims to add the Junior and Senior titles to her growing list of achievements. The indoor series comes first, followed by the outdoor events later in the year. “It would be great to take a National title in 2015 but the competition in both the Junior and Senior events will be very tough but I’ll give it my best and see what happens” Sophie added.
On Thursday night Sophie is also nominated for the Torbay Sports Personality of the year award that takes place at the Rivera Centre in Torquay, she will however be in competition with some fellow local bowlers including her brother Sam.
Moving into 2016 Sophie hopes to be selected for England squad that will compete at the World Champs in New Zealand.
One things for sure, this very talented youngster, defiantly has the drive and determination to make it to the top of her sport.
