Can Bucks Pip Melksham to Top Three Finish?
Buckland Athletic travel to deposed champions Odd Down of Bath in their final game of the season and a result could mean a second top three finish in three seasons.
After finishing runners-up to Melksham Town in 2015, the Yellows were two points shy of third spot last season. This season they are neck-in-neck with Melksham again, only behind the third-placed club on goal difference. While Melksham were at home to lowly Longwell Green Sports last Saturday, a scratch Buckland side faced a tough trip to fifth-placed Bradford Town and the game started in dramatic fashion with two goals in the opening couple of minutes. Dan Cottle crossed for Laurent Davis-Wilson to open the scoring in the very first minute but Buckland responded from the kick-off with Richard Groves applying the finishing touch. After Davis-Wilson saw a great effort saved by Grant Fisher around the ten-minute mark, Nick Rudge and Charlie Johansson combined to set up Si Revell for the 21st minute winner.
With Melksham predictably winning their penultimate game 3-1, they remain in the driving seat for third place but if they slip up at home to Wells City – who drew 3-3 in the reverse fixture – victory at Odd Down would see Buckland move above them.
