Buckland Run Goes on Ahead of Vase Quarter-Finals

Buckland Athletic came from a goal down at bottom side Hallen to win 3-1 in the Toolstation Western League. Next up is Sunday’s big FA Vase quarter-final trip to Sporting Bromsgrove.

Danny Webb headed the Bristol side into a 14th minute lead but within seven minutes the Yellows had levelled, defender Liam Drew taking advantage of some poor marking to find the corner of the net – his first goal of the campaign. Hallen had the chance to go into the half-time break ahead when Grant Fisher conceded a 32nd minute penalty. Up stepped Tom Collett but Fisher redeemed himself, guessing the right way to make the save and ensure Bucks went in level.

Jared Lewington finally completed the turnaround, rising at the back post to head home Lloyd Gardner’s cross after 66 minutes. Then, on 73 minutes, Si Laughton poked home from a corner to make things more comfortable. Gavin Hammon, who had started on the bench again, hit the bar late on but the game finished 3-1.

With Street also winning, 2-1 at Bitton, Buckland remain in third spot, one point behind but with a game in hand. Bristol Manor Farm continue to lead the way, wrapping up their eighth straight league win, but Buckland have now racked up nine league wins on the bounce and 14 successive wins in all. Their next challenge is, of course, Sunday afternoon’s quarter-final FA Vase tie away at Sporting Bromsgrove.
