Buckland Ladies Ride Out Newquay Wave (and Gullettes also Win Away!)
It was a fourth away trip in succession for Buckland Athletic Ladies but there are no signs of Homers Heath homesickness as the SWWFL Western Division leaders wrapped up another victory at Newquay.
Hayley Chamberlain scored twice and Laura Gough also netted in a 3-1 win – the visitors conceding for the first time in over six hours of football. Buckland had been due to face Launceston LFC at home last weekend but the Cornish side withdrew from the fixture and the League, leaving the Yellows without a fixture. Prior to that, Buckland caused an upset in the Devon Senior Cup by dispatching Exeter City, from the South West Division of the Premier League, 1-0 away, Chamberlain with the winner in that one. Buckland’s last League match was a 5-0 triumph at bottom Club Exeter and Tedburn, five different scorers finding the net on that day – Gough, Helen Kukor, Abigail Meyer, Gabriella Trays and Emily Hannaford from the subs bench.
In the SWWFL Premier today, Torquay United Ladies edged Poole Town 1-0, courtesy of an Emily Mousley strike, for back-to-back wins to move above their hosts on goal difference. It was some good news for the Gullettes after the disappointment of being knocked out of the Devon Senior Cup by league leaders Marine Academy Plymouth in their last fixture. Samantha Drewery and Nicola Symons struck for the Plymouth side with Mousley again on target for Torquay.
