New Torquay United Manager Paul Cox gave nine league debuts in United’s starting eleven for the first game of the season, only Angus MacDonald and Courtney Richards starting from last seasons squad.
Torquay’s best chance of the first half fell to Quigley within the first minute, when the United front man managed to get free from Pilkington before firing right footed across the visitors goal with the effort going just wide of the far post.
Fenwick tried his luck from 25 yards in the 25th minute but his effort was always rising over the bar.
Macclesfield also had their own chance in the first 45 minutes, the best of which fell to Danny Whitiaker on 11 minutes when the unmarked midfielder saw his low left footed strike saved well by Spiess.
Earlier Whitiaker swiveled well for the visitors to get his shot away in a crowed but the effort went wide of the United goal and on 16 minutes again Whitiaker had a header deflected wide of Smith’s head.
Cox made a tactical switch at half time with Fisher and Murombedzi switching flanks and the United number 11 cut in from the left and tried to curl the ball into the far post from the edge of the area just after the break.
The visitors then went up the other end and won a corner which saw Diagne climb well at the far post to get his header in that Spiees pushed round the post.
Fisher 57 left foot curl an effort but easy for the visitors keeper first shot on target.

The Gulls next two league games are away from the Launa Windows Stadium at Wrexham on Tuesday night and then Halifax on Saturday before heading back home on Tuesday week against Woking.
